First Sea Lord will pay a visit to Lithuania (18/09/2009)
On 23–24 September First Sea Lord and Chief of the UK Naval Staff Admiral Sir Mark Stanhope will pay a formal visit to Lithuania.
On September 23, Wednesday, the First Sea Lord will meet with the Minister of National Defence Rasa Juknevičienė, Chief of Defence of Lithuania Major General Arvydas Pocius, Chief of Defence Staff Rear Admiral Kęstutis Macijauskas, and other officials and military personel. On September 24 Adm. Sir M. Stanhope will visit Staff of Lithuanian Naval Force and Flotilla of Warships in Klaipėda and will meet with Commander Naval Force Captain Navy Olegas Mariničius.
Mark Stanhope took up the position of the First Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Staff in July 2009.
He is responsible to the Secretary of State for the fighting effectiveness, efficiency and morale of the Naval Service. As a member of the Defence Council he supports the Secretary of State in the management and direction of the Armed Forces through prerogative and statutory powers. A member of the Chiefs of Staff Committee he advises the Chief of the Defence Staff on maritime strategy and policy.
